Spire

Rabbit Valley 4X4:

This journey is suitable for all ages and abilities. We start in Fruita, Colorado in 4X4 vehicles and venture into the Rabbit Valley section of the Colorado Canyons National Conservation Area. Frequent stops to view stunning rock formations, active dinosaur digs and breathtaking overlooks of the Colorado River will leave even the most seasoned traveler in awe of this fantastic setting.

Rattlesnake Arches

Rattlesnake Arches:

On this trip you will be hiking around, through, and above one of the highest concentrations of natural sandstone arches in the world.  We start with a scenic drive from Fruita, Colorado through the Colorado National Monument.  For access to the Rattlesnake Canyon trailhead, we lock in the 4-wheel drive and cross the rugged Black Ridge near Horsethief Canyon.  From here, you will hike into this spectacular desert canyon viewing the Rattlesnake Arches and surrounding countryside.

Mee Canyon Alcove

Mee Canyon:

The drive to the Mee Canyon trailhead takes you through the scenic Colorado National Monument to the edge of the Black Ridge Wilderness Area.  The destination on this hike is Mee Canyon and the Mee Canyon Alcove.  Time, wind, and water have sculpted the sandstone into an amphitheater large enough to hold thousands, but don't be surprised when we are the only ones there.  Exploring a geologic wonder in this remote wilderness canyon will make you wish you could stay longer than just a day.

Native Rock Art

McDonald Canyon:

Travel back-in-time on this adventure.  We start in Fruita, Colorado and head West to Rabbit Valley, 4-wheeling to the head of McDonald Canyon.  From here, it is a leisurely hike through a stunning red rock canyon while viewing several panels of Indian rock art that date back over 1000 years.  At the bottom of this ancient trail, our boats will be waiting at the shores of the Colorado River to float you 7 miles down scenic Ruby Canyon.  Ruby Canyon is a favored rafting experience for river-runners of mild rapids, great scenery, wildlife, and bird watching.

Season: Mar.-Oct.

Prices: $125.00 per person, $115.00 per person under 18 or for groups larger than 5

Rating System
Easy Easy: Adventure trekking for all abilities and ages. Includes short hikes over gentle terrain and 4X4 travel.
Moderate Moderate: Participants should be able to walk at least a mile over uneven ground on Multi-Sport trips. River enthusiasts should expect small to medium size waves with clear passages.
Challenging Challenging: Multi-Sport trips will be in rugged terrain and may require some scrambling, hiking distances will be 3-5 miles. River trips will run rapids that require some maneuvering in strong currents, and exciting whitewater.
Difficult Difficult: These trips will take you to some of the most remote spots of the Black Ridge Wilderness. Expect hikes of 6+ miles over rugged country. Some scrambling will be required in the toughest spots and ropes may me used to lower packs or for hand holds.
Extreme Extreme: This rating is reserved for the most physically demanding of all our trips. We require that all participants have either extensive back country experience or have participated in one of our less demanding adventures.
